SHOCKER: Rand Paul Is Full Of Shit. Again.

Serial plagiarizer and Republican Senator from Kentucky, Rand Paul is in hot water again, for his sources. This time the problem is not citing them, it’s not checking them.

Paul made comments in an interview on Tuesday, about Senator John McCain, (R Az). He said,

“Here’s the problem. He [McCain] did meet with ISIS, and had his picture taken, and didn’t know it was happening at the time.”

The problem is, it apparently isn’t true.

John McCainRumors to that effect did circulate for a while. Pictures of McCain with people purported to be ISIS militants did circulate on the internet and were widely shared. While the pictures are real, those individuals in the pictures have been misidentified. As reported in the NY Times, the group McCain did meet with were members of the Free Syrian Army, a group vehemently opposed to ISIS and which President Obama has vowed to support with training and equipment.

Paul has been in trouble over sources before. Last year, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow outed him for lifting passages from Wikipedia into a speech. Then, the NY Times revealed  he apparently copied some text from an article in The Week for use in an Op Ed he wrote for the Washington Times.

Coincidentally, also on Tuesday, Paul addressed those charges through a spokesman, saying

“Ultimately, I’m the boss, and things go out under my name, so it is my fault.”

So, in one breath he moved on from not citing his sources, to not checking them.
