Vigil Held For Unarmed TX Student Killed By Campus Cop (VIDEO)
Students at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas are struggling to understand why a fellow student was shot and killed while being apparently unarmed.
Robert Cameron Redus, 23, was killed by a campus police officer early Saturday morning during an alleged altercation at a traffic stop in his apartment complex near the campus. Friends described Redus as compassionate and caring, and “not aggressive at all.”
Longtime friend Annie Jones described Redus as;
“…the sweetest, kindest, gentlest person, so compassionate…”
KSAT News quotes an “unnamed man” who witnessed the incident, who told the station;
“I didn’t hear (the officer) say anything like, ‘Get down on your hands and knees,’ you know? I didn’t hear him say anything. He just started shooting. He emptied the gun on him. Boom, boom, boom. Six shots — five or six.”
Another witness, Mohammad Haidarasl, told the San Antonio Express News that right before the shots rang out;
“I heard (a man) say, ‘Oh, you’re gonna shoot me?’ like sarcastic almost.”
A Spokesperson for Alamo Heights Police Department said the police officer, Cpl. Chris Carter, has been put on administrative leave while the incident is being investigated.
