UPDATE: 7:00 PM PST:

Variety Magazine reports:

“Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson has been placed on indefinite hiatus from the reality program following his controversial remarks in GQ magazine regarding homosexuality. While the cast member has not officially been fired, he will not be filming with the show moving forward.

A+E Networks, parent company of  A&E, has released the following statement to Variety:

“We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty. His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community.”

ORIGINAL STORY:

Phil Robertson, the hugely popular backwoods hick and A&E’ “Duck Dynasty” patriarch, is causing a major stir for some astoundingly ignorant and homophobic remarks he gave in an interview to G.Q. Magazine for the January issue;

“It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”

But if merely acting offended by the gay lifestyle wasn’t enough, it gets better. Robertson equated homosexuality as a “gateway drug” of sorts for bestiality;

“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.”

A self-described ex-drug addict turned born-again Christian, Robertson had some words of advice for all us heathens that don’t share his bigoted views;

 “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

Not surprisingly, the right-wing hate mongers have rallied to his side. Fox News has tried to justify his remarks, and American Family Association’s Islamophobe and homophobe Bryan Fischerwho claims that gay marriage leads to pedophilia – called Robertson a “new American hero;”

“(Robertson) said exactly what the great majority of Americans believe…”
