Boehner, The Tea Party, And Schooling The Constitutionalists On The Constitution

As John Boehner refuses to “pass a clean CR (Continuing Resolution to keep the government funded),” remember, that nearly a century and a half ago, our nation passed a crucial set of laws specifically designed to prevent this sort of threat.

Section 4 of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution says: “The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.”

During Reconstruction, the government passed the 14th Amendment to consolidate abolition and prevent parliamentary trickery as a means for the rump Confederacy to regain political and economic influence at a national level.  Note that the authors of this Amendment were specifically concerned that those engaged in “insurrection and rebellion” against the US government might consider calling the debt into question as a technique for bringing down the US government, even though they had lost the Civil War.

Monday, John Boehner, Ted Cruz and the House Tea Party caucus of the GOP are engaged in a no less real rebellion and insurrection against the US government.  They merely lost an election, not a war, but they are equally determined to bring down the American republic if the people are not forced, against their democratic wishes, to bend to their extremely narrow interests.

Through ALL THREE branches of government, the Affordable Care Act has been thoroughly vetted by the American republic, and survived a national election.  The ACA is the law of the land, and its legality and legitimacy are beyond question.  Questioning the solvency of the federal government in order to tear down the law of the land thus vetted, is rebellion against the United States of America, its constitution, its economy, its laws, its people, its system of checks and balances, its republic and its democracy.

Obama and the Democrats must not negotiate with them.  They are directly and brazenly violating the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, and as such, they are openly treasonous against the United States of America.

Let this be their Pickett’s Charge.
