Arrested Journalist: “Scott Walker Is A Puppet Of The American Legislative Exchange Council” (VIDEO)

Published On August 19, 2013 | By james |

Matthew Rothschild, The editor and publisher of The Progressive magazine, recently discussed his unceremonious arrest inside the Wisconsin state capital by Governor Scott Walker’s Capital police;

“This was in the Capitol — a public space, and I followed them down there and I was taking pictures, and they said, ‘You can’t come here.’ And I said, ‘Well, I’m a reporter, I’m with The Progressive magazine.’ They said, ‘No, you can’t come here.’ I said, ‘I’m with the press. I have a right to be here.’ And with that, I didn’t get another word out because they grabbed my hands, put them behind my back and handcuffed me right then and there.”

As we have posted in the past, Union busting, nepotism in the state legislature, and boiler-plate ALEC-penned abortion legislation are all Standard Operating Procedure for the Koch-supported Governor.

Union-busting in particular enraged Wisconsinites, as Wisconsin is the very birthplace of the labor movement and organized labor. In splitting the unions, Walker (R) promised this would create a plethora of jobs around the state; in actuality Wisconsin ranks 44th in job growth in the United States from September 2011 to September 2012, and unemployment has jumped to 7.2 percent.

Raw Story reported that “a March 2013 report by the state Legislature’s nonpartisan budget office… warned that Walker’s latest budget threatened to create a $664 million deficit, contrary to his boast during a Monday interview with MSNBC host Joe Scarborough about guiding Wisconsin to a $500 million surplus.” More on that report can be found HERE.

The “unlawful protests” that are causing hundreds of arrests are known around the state as the Solidarity Sing- Alongs, which started at the Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison on March 11, 2011, during the ultimately unsuccessful Scott Walker recall efforts and have been held at noon every weekday since then, with arrests happening by the dozens on a daily basis. They are nothing more than peaceful gatherings of singers that are protesting Walkers reign of terror.

This video shows  Wisconsin Friar Philip Gerboc proclaiming that the daily string of arrests are “no less than fascism,” and another shows the Capital Police injuring a 70 year old Vietnam Veteran while arresting him for nothing more than peacefully singing protect songs. Even state Rep. Sondy Pope (D-Middleton) was threatened with arrest simply for watching the demonstrations.

In an interview with Democracy Now!, Rothschild and host Amy Goodman discussed what indeed looks like a potential Walker presidential run. Rothschild called the prospect “horrifying,” and added;

“He is devastating the state. He can talk all he wants, but he’s ruining what used to be a pretty decent state here. He’s cut Medicaid, he’s cutting abortion rights, he’s let the mining companies write their own law and it’s going to destroy the environment in the northern parts of the state including on Native American lands… Scott Walker is a puppet of the American Legislative Exchange Council.”

    Walker is the wost thing to happen to the State of Wisconsin! He has taken us backwards 50 years and split the people…. it use to be everyone got along here….now, you have pro and anti Walker people.

  • Paul Hawkwind Wyrick

    And you had a chance to get rid of him but didn’t..

    • Julie Gordon

      For crying out loud, that seems to be the standard reply from those who seem to think we deserve this clown. Walker had months to broadcast Koch-funded propaganda against the recall election, and many folks bought it. Many were unhappy with a recall without criminal charges. If you were to have the recall election today, after all of his Wisconsin-destroying actions of late, I can guarantee the results would not be in his favor.

        It’s a bummer, for sure. I wish someone other than Barrett had run.

        Anyways nothing for it but to gear up for 2014 and kick the bum to the curb,

    Scott Walker remembers creating jobs as assemblyman in Wisconsin . It was easy with ALEC. 32000 UNION public sector jobs. It is not as easy this time with out using your tax dollars. Scott Walker has created ALL Wisconsin`s budget problems working for ALEC. In 1997 Walker and Prosser as state assemblymen championed for ALEC with truth in sentencing telling the legislatures it would not cost a dime it was to give judges not parole boards the control over sentencing. Then Walker filibustered to stop sentencing changes after the fact misleading ALL the legislatures. With out the sentencing changes Wisconsin`s prisons quadrupled over night. Most people sentenced to 2 years now had to serve as much as 6o years. As the Wisconsin Budget watch Blog shows . Stopping just a percentage of these long sentences Wisconsin would save 707 million per year. Wisconsin could have free tuition colleges. It shows Wisconsin has wasted 200 billion if you add the numbers to the state budget since 1997. Not including the building new or remodeling of 71 courthouses & 71 county jails & 273 police stations and dozens of prisons 28 billion plus interest. The total is over 70 BILLION plus the 100 Billion spent by social services to support prisoners families because the bread winner was a political prisoner as US Att gen Eric Holder explained. Then farming out prisoners in several states until the courts realized it was not allowed in the Wisconsin constitution. Wisconsin then hired 32000 union public sector workers to fill the jobs housing the prisoners from deputies , judges, district attorneys all owe Walker for creating there jobs. 32000 UNION PUBLIC SECTOR JOBS. This cost taxpayers over 3.8 billion or a half million per day to house these EXTRA prisoners per day in Milwaukee county alone. Wisconsin claims it has 24,000 prisoners compared to Minnesota`s 5500. Wisconsin`s corrections population is 104,000 with over 28,000 prisons in Milwaukee county alone . In 1995 Milwakee county had less than 1000 prisoners . Is Scott Walker moving Wisconsin forward ? This your reason for budget problems in Wisconsin. Big spender big government Scott Walker. Why does he not work for the people he is taking his check from the people ?

    Wisconsin Budget watch blog has a great article on this.

    Its amazing how brownshirt thugs like this infest conservatism lately.

    Walker is a psychopath by definition and if you look at other psychopaths they all have a lower right eye which is an indicator of brain damage. Don’t believe me just google images – psychopaths and see for yourself.
