Religious Scholar Who Shamed FOX NEWS Shames Them Some More (VIDEO)

Reza Aslan, the religious scholar who’s interview with Fox News anchor Lauren Green went viral over the weekend, is speaking out about his surreal experience with the uber-conservative, largely discredited “news” network.

On Wednesday, Aslan told MSNBC‘s Alex Wagner – who said the original interview revealed Fox News to be “anti-Muslim, and “anti-fact,” that he was “embarrassed” for the network:

“Well, look, I watch Fox News, anyone who watches Fox News knows that they have an inherent anti-Muslim bias in their reporting and has been for quite some time. It’s very successful for them. I don’t actually blame them for it. They’re a commercial enterprise. They know how to sell a product and, frankly, fear sells a product. I do want to say one quick thing though. Look, I feel really bad for Lauren Green. You know this, Alex, anybody on your show knows this that Lauren was sitting there being yelled at by some producer in her ear.”

Aslan had appeared on the network to promote his new book, Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth.  The interview with Green was notable in that she seemingly was looking to discredit Aslan from the very beginning of the interview;

“I want to be clear, you are a Muslim, so why did you write a book about the founder of Christianity?”

Demonstrating an amazing amount of patience and perhaps prepared for the ambush, Aslan respectfully pushed back against Green;

“Well, to be clear, I am a scholar of religion with four degrees, including one in the New Testament, and fluency in biblical Greek, who has been studying the origins of Christianity for two decades – who also just happens to be a Muslim – so, it’s not that I’m just some MusliM writing about Jesus, I am an expert with a PhD in the history of religions…”

When Green – who kept pivoting back the fact that Aslan was Muslim and clearly hadn’t read the book –  mumbled something about the book being written with a “clear bias,” like “if a Democrat wrote a book claiming Ronald Reagan wasn’t a good Republican,” Aslan responded;

“Well, it would be like a Democrat who had a Ph.D. in political science and dedicated the last two decades of his life to studying Reagan writing a book about him.”
